When you need to make an update to your site, do you do it right on the live site? Are you scared to upgrade your Drupal site for fear that it will break? Maybe you're heard about local development, but you just don't know where to start. This session will be an introduction to various options you have for developing a Drupal site on your own computer.

Bring your laptop! We will spend the bulk of this session getting your own environment up and running. Check out the slides below, and feel free to get a head start. Come with questions!

Acquia calls itself the "Enterprise Guide to Drupal" but yeah, we know---a lot of Drupal developers don't think we offer anything of value to them. In fact, the Acquia Network provides tremendous value to Drupal developers and site builders, we just aren't always that great at explaining it. In this session, I'll describe and demo Acquia's developer-focused products:

Acquia Insight provides clear, actionable recommendations about your Drupal site's configuration, tuning, SEO, and security, both before and after it goes live. The site may be perfectly set up the day it launches, but Insight monitors and alerts you about problems as the site changes over time.
Acquia Cloud simplifies Drupal site development and production hosting. It provides development, staging, and production environments, with integrated workflow tools for automating tasks, running tests, and deploying your site. Cloud offers automatic backups and restores, 24/7 monitoring, easy SSH setup, SSH shell access and complete Drush support, and more.
Acquia Search provides turn-key Drupal-integrated faceted search powered by ApacheSolr. Help your visitors find the content they are looking for, remove the search processing load from your own server(s), and eliminate all the hassle of managing it yourself.
All three of these services are available for free for non-production sites.

DevShop: Open Source Drupal Cloud Hosting

DevShop can now run Behat Tests on your sites automatically, and gives visual feedback of the results in the interface.

In this session we'll show you how you can spin up your own continous testing server in as little time as it takes to present this session, and how behat allows you to integrate more people into your testing (and test writing) process.

About DevShop

DevShop is open source cloud hosting for Drupal.

DevShop is functionally equivalent to Drupal cloud hosting services like Acquia Cloud and Pantheon, but you can run it on your own servers, and you can extend it as easily as Drupal itself. You can use DevShop to host extra environments for sites hosted on Acquia Cloud and Pantheon.

With a backend powered by Drush, and a slick front-end built in Drupal, DevShop is familiar to anyone who knows Drupal.

We've recently redesigned all of DevShop, making it easier to use than ever.

With "Deploy Hooks" you can run tasks after updating code. Built in deploy hooks include clearing caches, running updates and reverting features, but you can add your own to each site using drush functions. Deploy hooks can trigger test runs. DevShop now has support for running Acquia Cloud Hooks.

During the duration of this talk we will install DevShop from scratch on a fresh Ubuntu server, then build, test and deploy a drupal site with ease.
